2022 URMA Member Survey
ABOUT THE SURVEY
This year, we focused on 4 main topics:
- Better understanding the organization’s demographics, so we can better serve and expand our membership, identify and overcome our biases, and improve our own DEI efforts
- The kinds of teams that we are on, our backgrounds, and our salaries (perhaps to assist in future negotiation efforts!?)
- The kinds of content we produce and what we do with that content, and
- Magazines, especially our digital presence. This is meant to complement the previous survey, which heavily explored print magazines.
Special thanks to Edyta Zielinska, Chelsea Julian, and Joe McClain, who provided very useful feedback during the survey planning process.

URMA Live!
Telling Inclusive Stories
TIME: 2:00 pm—3:00 pm EST
FORMAT: Zoom (Click here for the link)
In response to the recent cuts to DEI programs and coverage, thoughtful and accurate storytelling is more important than ever. This session will explore how writers can build trust with diverse communities and conduct interviews with care and integrity. Driving the discussion are two esteemed experts: Letrell Crittenden, director of Temple University’s new Center for Community Engaged Media, and Paul Cuadros, a UNC-Chapel Hill journalism professor and award-winning investigative reporter specializing in coverage of the Latino community. URMA members Alyssa LaFaro of UNC-Chapell Hill and Edyta Zielinska of Thomas Jefferson University will moderate.
