DESCRIPTION: The Communications Specialist creates and helps distribute informative, engaging and persuasive content to promote the Ohio Technology Consortium (OH-TECH).

Responsibilities of the Communications Specialist include:

Writes copy for various projects (which may include translating complex technology topics into simple terms). Writing assignments include news releases, case studies, feature stories, promotional and marketing copy, internal memos, event coverage and social media content.

  • Oversees the organization’s social media efforts.
  • Produces a monthly internal newsletter.
  • Provides communications support to programs.
  • Assists with event planning and execution.
  • Helps with website maintenance.
  • Handles some photography and videography work.
  • The specialist position requires a self-starter and collaborative team player.

Ohio Technology Consortium staff are currently working on a hybrid schedule. This position will support in-person communications tasks and events on a regular basis.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professional experience writing for multiple media and audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce engaging content on deadline and work across multiple media types.
  • Experience interviewing internal and external sources.
  • Familiarity with Associated Press (AP) style.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to shift quickly between independent production and team collaboration.
  • Demonstrated ability to use or learn a variety of relevant software and tools, including Microsoft Office and web content management systems.
  • Desired Education/Experience
  • Experience in technology and/or higher education fields.
  • Experience utilizing a social media management platform such as Sprout Social or Hootsuite.
  • Professional experience planning communications projects.
  • Knowledge of basic graphic design and layout principles.
  • Experience writing promotional video scripts and interviewing subjects on camera.
  • Experience shooting and editing photos and videos is a plus.
