DESCRIPTION: The Communications Division at the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory seeks an Employee News Coordinator to support the Laboratory’s primary internal communications vehicles. This position will interface with employees at all levels and areas of the Laboratory for the purpose of helping share messages, news, and information that is pertinent to ORNL staff. The successful candidate will be a talented deadline-driven writer/editor who will oversee a variety of compelling employee-facing communications news sources including ORNL’s employee news site, calendar of technical events, and daily headlines summary that is emailed weekdays to all employees.

The individual will be expected to adjust quickly to changing priorities and demands as communication needs shift during a typical day. They will collaborate closely with the internal communications specialist who helps with editing and production as well as others who contribute content. The position will engage regularly with communications coordinators across ORNL to keep up with happenings; they will also engage regularly with creative experts and information technology staff in order to fulfill technology and visual communications needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English and/or complementary field of study with 10+ years of professional experience managing or working with news sites and/or employee communications products and tools for large, diverse organizations. Equivalent education and experience will be considered. Candidates will be expected to share a portfolio of their work.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivation, creativity, attention to detail, and skills required for planning, coordinating, and producing effective communication products.
  • Ability to balance multiple demands and perform professionally under pressure.
