DESCRIPTION: Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a science writer and communications specialist who is passionate about contributing to the advancement of super computing, data science, and artificial intelligence. The position resides in ORNL’s Communications Division and is matrixed to the Computing and Computational Sciences Directorate (CCSD), which is home to Frontier, the world’s fastest supercomputer and first to exceed the exascale performance barrier.

The ideal candidate will have experience writing about scientific and technical subject matter, and creating and implementing digital content such as social media, websites, and video.

QUALIFICATIONS: Basic Qualifications:
• A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, a science, or a related field.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience producing communications products for general audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Communications experience in a national laboratory setting or with DOE staff and experience coordinating social media for organizations are preferred.
• Ability to assist the team in growing the social media presence for CCSD by supporting social media accounts, developing multimedia content, planning campaigns, posting regular updates, monitoring interactions, and analyzing metrics.
• Ability to analyze and report website metrics, and assist with benchmarking laboratory and industry best practices to maximize site and content effectiveness for relevant audiences.
• Ability to assist the team in developing communications projects from concept to completion within deadlines.
• Excellent scientific/technical reading, writing, and editing skills (will be expected to provide writing samples).
